Long time fan here, and the aproach for trail is nice for begginers but its too basic and for a single sprite character.
Since its advertised to be a castlevania like effect, I think a complete example with a spritesheet its needed, otherwise its just a particle.
Can be a very simple sprite sheet with a sprite for idle and another two for walk, that could be extended by the users to animayions of any lenght and create the real Castlevania / Metroid trail effect
